Our Heritage

From one woman's atelier to a 240-strong family.

VIVA 1960 began as an act of quiet defiance — a small atelier where women could earn a trade at a time when few workshops would hire them. Three generations later, that founding purpose still runs the factory floor.

Marie Nashed with members of her original atelier, the workshop that would become VIVA 1960.
1960

Inspired by the growing women's movement of the era, Marie Nashed opens an atelier in Cairo, employing women as skilled makers rather than casual labor.

1971

Marie, alongside her husband Amin's commercial strategy, ships VIVA's first international order — 60,000 pieces exported to Poland.

1972

VIVA installs the first automatic embroidery machine in the Middle East, a full generation ahead of most regional manufacturers.

1990s–2000s

Marie's son Boulos Massoud and his wife Ivy Gobran take the workshop and formalize it into VIVA1960, a full production factory.

2013

The factory relocates to a purpose-built, state-of-the-art facility in New Cairo, where VIVA still operates today.

2019

VIVA is nominated to GTEX-MENA, a UN International Trade Centre export-readiness program for SMEs.

2024

VIVA begins a new phase of growth — targeting a doubling of production capacity and workforce, and breaking ground on a new production hall to meet rising demand from international partners.

2026

Third-generation leadership adds a computerized cutting system, expands to 6 automatic template sewing stations, and installs 3 new vacuum mini-template units — the latest step in a 65-year push toward precision.

Technology & Automation

Consistency you can't get from hand-cut, hand-fed production.

VIVA has spent three decades investing ahead of the market — from the Middle East's first automatic embroidery machine in 1972 to a newly installed computerized cutting system in 2026. Automation isn't a talking point here; it's how we hold tolerance across a 500,000-unit run.

Automated Fabric Spreading

Rolls are laid in precise, tension-controlled layers, eliminating the ply drift and waste of hand-spreading and keeping every marker consistent across the lay.

2New 2026New 2026 computerized automatic fabric cutting system at VIVA 1960

Automatic Fabric Cutting

A newly installed computerized cutter reads digital markers and cuts panels to exact spec, replacing hand-guided cutting for cleaner edges and less fabric waste.

Automatic Template Sewing

Six programmable template stations stitch pockets, waistbands and repeat details identically, run after run — where hand-guided sewing would drift.

Vacuum Mini-Template Units

Three new vacuum-assisted mini template machines hold delicate panels flat during stitching, purpose-built for smaller, high-precision components.

Built by women, built to last.

Sixty-five years after Marie Nashed opened her atelier, gender equity and low-waste production are still how VIVA measures a good year — not just a well-shipped one.

Near-Zero Waste

Scrap fabric is recycled back into our intimates line, keeping total factory waste to roughly 1%.

Workforce Stability

Over 20% of our team have been with VIVA more than ten years, protecting institutional knowledge on the floor.

Community Training

An in-factory technical training program, run with the Egyptian government, builds local textile skills.
